Decrepitaph / Humiliation: The Carnal Slumber / Enemy’s Perimeter (split)
23/04/13 || Cobal
I got this one through e-mail and decided to give it a shot almost by chance. Not being and expert on the most primitive form of death metal, I found both bands quite near each other musically. I was almost dissapointed when realizing that there are only two songs to be listened to here; I’m completely ignorant of the trajectory of any of these bands. Humiliation on one side, feels particularly threatening at the beginning of their song taking off with a slow sharp riff that almost had an effect on me until they went for the most obvious thing to do when trying to reach four minutes of length just because: a plain repetition pattern of the same musical idea lightly switching from groovy to fast and back again.
On the other hand, Decrepitaph’s tremolo picked riffage didn’t do much for me at the beginning. Vocals sound particularly cavernous, and something I’ll give these guys is they did know when to slow things down and give the drums some space to phrase something amongst some rather doomy guitar notes. Don’t take me too seriously when it comes to this, but for some reason reminded me of Necrophagia and their album “Season of the dead”. You see, that’s not necessarily a compliment, though. A couple contemporary bands emulating that particular kind of music without actually bringing something new to the table won’t impress me.
Moreover, I’ve never quite got the necessity of purchasing a split album containing only two songs of two different bands. Maybe if you are a collectionist this could have some use to you. If I wanted to check either act, I’d rather go for one of their full-length albums or something. Most likely I won’t. But not everything is lost: After all, they did make me write a three paragraphs stub, didn’t they?
5/10: Not terrible, but I just don’t see the point.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
